miriamblaylock I love what he is doing. But I don't understand why so many of his Instagram followers look like they could be brothers in some way. His music should be able to reach any open heart. Now I just close my eyes and listen.

about

PORTRAIT OF MELANCHOLY is a collection of moody works that I find myself continually drawn towards, both as a listener and as a player. Most of the pieces are either attached to specific moments and people (warm memories to soothe in dark times), or else they're works I've always wanted to try my hand at arranging because I'm simply obsessed with them. Spanning a lot of time and ground in terms of style and nationality, I didn't let myself be constrained by the usual programming orthodoxy preferred within early music (in other words, all one composer, one style, one country, etc). The resulting album closely traces my moods during the dark and uncertain days of 2020 and 2021 - so you get some anger, some hope, some warmth, and A LOT OF SADNESS. Making the recording took several months since I was performing, arranging, producing, and editing it alone - but the process taught me so much about both the art of recording and these works I've loved for so long. I'd like to thank Ben Cooper/Radical Face, my partner in music, art, and life for the instruction, feedback, technical polish, and support he gave me throughout making this record. Thanks again for listening!
